The City of Mayville, Wisconsin, is a lovely community of 5,000 within the Beaver Dam metro area. Mayville is located on the Rock River in Dodge County, the historic gateway to the Horicon Marsh. The community was named after Eli and Chester May, settlers, and had an estimated population in 2003 of 4,979..

Mayville was incorporated as a city in 1845. Originally inhabited by the Fox, Potawatomi, and Winnebago native American tribes, the surrounding area was mainly populated by German immigrants in the mid-19th century. The development of Mayville began in 1845 with the arrival of William Foster and Chester and Eli May, who established a power site and mill on the Rock River. These efforts promoted the early settlement of the village.

(Main Street Mayville was designated a Historical District in 1994. The district is composed of most of the historic downtown commercial business center of Mayville. Most of the District runs along Main Street and consists of a streetscape of nineteenth and early twentieth century commercial buildings. The Eastern boundary of the district is the beautiful Rock River, which runs the length of the town. The Hollenstein Wagon Factory, and the Mayville Limestone School Museum are both local historic landmarks.)

Even today, Mayville's quaint, historic appearance belies the fact that the city has a strong industrial base, employing almost 3,000 people.. New housing continues at a moderate pace, with people moving to Mayville as an alternative to city life. The community's quality of life is considered excellent, as are its schools, park system and civic pride. Mayville's cozy location, on the eastern edge of the well known Horicon Marsh, brings many tourists each year.

Mayville, WI also has a reputation as a blue collar community, and is home to several large manufacturing facilities. Among these are plants operated by Metalcraft, Mayville Engineering Company, Affiliated Products, and Gleason Reel, a subsidiary of Hubbell Corporation. Dairy farming and other agricultural activities comprise an important part of the local economy.

Mayville's pride is being home to the 1994 Division 4 Wisconsin State Football Champions, also winning state championships in Softball (99') and Basketball (83'). Every October, "Audobon Day's" is a culmunation of Mayville's historic German roots. Festivities include Bed Races, Taste of Mayville, Duck Races, and Live Music.

Though small as communities go, Mayville, Wisconsin can boast of several popular entertainment coups. American Academy Award-nominated 2006 computer animated film Monster House was set in Mayville, WI. And comic book writer, actor, writer, and film producer Rob Schrab grew up in Mayville.
